Did you try just typing the name in (without the .ca) into
www.cdnnet.ca/search.html ? I'll bet that it did exist before
this week....but it may have been a third or fourth level domain
(i.e. domain.on.ca). In that case if you typed in domain.ca you
would not see it as registered, however, it would cause the message
you mentioned as it would be reserved for the owner to upgrade to
it. Cross your fingers and hope that they don't re-register their
domain and maybe you'll be able to pick it up Feb. 1.

Subject: RE: .ca disapppeared?
This was very helpful. DUH! I never even noticed that section
before (or
ignored it).
So, my findings bring up an even larger question - how could this
happen?
When the client submitted the request, it came up as new
domain/advanced
reg...This would mean that it did not exist in the old registry,
right? So,
when I see it got declined..."name is already reserved", that
should mean
someone else in queue ahead of her got it as an advanced
registration,
right? Fine and dandy.....
BUT... if I try to register it now, it tells me it's available for
pre-registration.. which means it *IS* in the old registry? CIRA
Whois just
shows it as reserved. Cdnnet.ca Whois says there is "no
registration
found".... What gives?

You can use "Search reg system orders". Specify *.ca names,
registration type "new orders". You will see the statuses there.
Hope this helps -
