And their price to wholesalers is much less than that. The $99 price
at Tucows Certs

This isn't beating them up on price, Rich. This is a discussion about
this particular industry (the CA's) having priced these product
based more on what they view they can make people pay, since an SSL
certificate is almost required in this day and age.

With OpenSRS's history of breaking that down by offering better
pricing to their MSP's on domain names in a way that shook up the
entire domain name industry had many of us thinking that we could
expect Tucows to do the same with the Secure Cert market. Had they
done that, with the sheer volume of MSPs and the exposure they have
after a year of operation, Tucows could have locked up the market and
made their Server Certs offer something that no MSP would even think
about saying they were not interested in offering.

As it stands, while it is an excellent offering, and it lets them
compete with Verisign, the final price will have to be somewhere over
$20 more than what our customers can pay if they go through us (or any
equifax business partner) for equifax certs. Had they gone down to
$49 or $59, where we could sell reasonably for $69 to $79, I don't
think many MSPs would turn away from this offer, and I think that
Tucows would have stood a great chance of positioning themselves with
Secure Certs in the same way they have with domain registration
market share.

Especially with the MSPs who are also hosting companies.

While I think Tucows will do well with this offering, I think they
are missing a real opportunity to be a driving force in this market
area.
