With the impending release of OpenSRS v2.2, I've managed to convince
a few folks around here to make a "preview release" tarball of the
new client code and documentation available to those that are
interested in getting a sneak peek at the new functionality and
features.

I've got a few reasons for doing this;

a) to make sure that we are on the right track as far as your
expectations go
b) to make sure that final "gold" release of the new client and
server go as smoothly as possible
c) to give all of you the chance to give us feedback on the new
features, functionality, documentation etc.
d) to give those of you that want it, a head start on integration
into your back-end systems.

This is very much a personal effort for me - our build/release
schedule was so tight on this one that we didn't have the luxury of
including a public beta cycle into the mix. I hope to do so in the
future, but we just can't free up the time for this next release.

As a result, I can't promise any sort of support for this code and
documentation (either formal or informal - the developers and support
guys have threatened that if they get even one question about the
code that they will black-list me in perpetuity ;) I will do what I
can to answer questions sent directly to me, but since the last time
I cut code was for an accounting package for the Apple ][e, I'm
pretty sure I won't be much help.

So anyways, same rules as last time apply - if you wish to access
this information, please send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] (only) for
a username, password and URL. Note that while this code and
documentation will eventually be released under an open license, it
is currently considered proprietary and confidential information.
Please limit your discussions to these lists.

Lastly, here's a few practical notes about the code -

 - our RSP Integration and Test Environment on horizon.opensrs.net
does not currently talk to this code. You will be unable to use RITE
to debug any changes you might make to PR1.

 - PR1 may or may not be the final version of the client code.
Further, there is no guarantee that this code will ever be able to
talk to RITE or the production environment.

 - This code might not work at all or it may destroy data that you
consider valuable or important. This is your risk and neither I nor
Tucows will be held responsible for any loss or damage that may arise
from your use of this pre-release code.

 - This code may or may not precipate global thermonuclear war.
Neither I nor Tucows will be held responsible for any loss or damage
that may arise from this potential armageddon.

 - This code is not being released under the GPL. We consider it a
proprietary work and it is not licensed for redistribution. You may
however modify this code as long as the original source or any
modifications are not released to any third parties. This license
will expire on October 31, 2000 at which point this license will
automatically revert to the official Gnu Public License.

 - This code is officially not supported by Tucows.

I hope that this is all of use, please feel free to drop me a line if
you have any questions or concerns.

- -rwr

PS - I was kidding about the nuclear holocaust. Bonus points if you
actually read that far and got the joke ;)
