That point is questionable since one can manage one's registration from any
reseller's website or from the OpenSRS home. Before we became a reseller
ourselves, I registered a large number of domains through another reseller,
then several more directly with the same profile. I can manage the whole
bunch from my own installation. The only difference is that only the ones
registered on my on RSP account appear in my "Active Domains" list.
Another point is that no OpenSRS domain lists the reseller's name in its
whois record-- Only that of the registrant, contacts and TUCOWS (as the
registrar). The only thing that could possibly be tied to the reseller is a
contact or a nameserver (and both can be changed through any RSP's website).

originally accepted a registration without some hacking.
