A domain I registered yesterday afternoon (5:34 PM EST) is still not available in the root nameservers or the InterNIC or NetSol whois. Has the update schedule changed? it used to be that anything registered by 6:00 pm EST would show up over night and anything registered by 6:00 am EST would show up in the afternoon. At worst case, it never took more than 24 hours. I find it interesting that the InterNIC whois shows its last update as Mon, 22 Jan 2001 05:28:39 EST.
