I disagree.  The geektools whois -- any WHOIS for that matter -- will not
reliably give you availability information.  It will give you a pretty good
indication, but WHOIS typically runs 24-48 hours behind the root registry.
The availability checks within the OpenSRS scripts actually check the root
registry, and are absolutely authoritative when they report that a name is
available (at the moment that you check it, of course).
