The problem you experienced is typical for name servers on the same network
segment.  If you plan to use a setup like this, you shouldn't expect
anywhere near 100% uptime!

Another "gotcha":  If you use your authoritative name servers for internal
DNS resolution, you will be the last to know your domain is not working
(this causes a lot of people to lose their expired domains, because they
never know they are on hold).
