I don't envy your position in deciding how this might be done. a) is
touchy, b) is bound to tick some resellers off, and c) is only going to
happen with a blessing from God and a bit of good luck. In most cases, it
sounds like the domain is likely to expire, despite the good intentions of
all involved. One small difficulty, unless the system allows otherwise, is
going to be the necessity of adding a year (with associated charges) to the
domain's registration in order to effect the RSP to RSP transfer.
BTW, back to the statements in the original post, has an ICANN accredited
registrar yet gone under? I would imagine that as another accredited
registrar, such news wouldn't go unnoticed by Tucows.
