I feel I should say that since making that post, they've been
in contact with me and all is well.
They were actually extremely responsive initially, it was only
the recent communications that things seemed to break down. The
problem seems to have been fixed - and I should add, they have
been extremely helpful.
As for minimum amounts (for both namebrain and domainsense).
It's actually not that bad... if the service can help push you
above 250 domains a month (if you're not already there), then
you qualify for the Tucows rebate anyway.
That said, I still find DomainSense too expensive... especially
as its pay-per-query. NameBrain is a flat rate $149/month -
and this includes your own local database - which they update
on a daily basis. This is a plus in my opinion, but it means
that its not suited to virtual host setups. Another plus for
NameBrain was their initial involvement with OpenSRS... the
similarity in configuring the setup stands out.
The other thing I hated about domainsense (other than price)
was that you have to put their logo on your search results. I
think they have quite a hide making such a demand with the prices
they charge.
They have a good product, I agree with that... but on the balance
of things, I'd have to say that NameBrain seems like a much better
solution. I'm in the process of setting up namebrain now - so I'll
let you all know how it goes in a month or so :)
