When you transfer in a .com/.org/.net, you also add on (at least) one 
year. With .co.uk/.org.uk, the registration period is fixed at two 
years, and the automated tools won't let you move them in - you have to 
request this be done manually by those hard-working people at OpenSRS.

OK, so how does this actually work?
If a domain isn't up for renewal for six months, or a year, can it be 
moved in now?

How is this charged? For the TLDs it is straightforward - you just pay 
for at least a year, but as (AFAIK - I could be very wrong here) you 
can't pay more or less than two years on a .uk cc this wouldn't work the 
same?
