The registry auto-renews domains on the expiry date. This means that
OpenSRS pays the registry immediately . However, the registry has a 60(?)
day period in which OpenSRS can request a refund, thereby deleting the
domain, and making it available for anyone. Now, surely they could do this
deletion earlier, if requested -- But then the domain would be available to
the open market, not just the current owner.
However, I suspect that once the transfer has been processed, this refund
can no longer happen, and as a result, OpenSRS would be out the $6 fee, and
the client would have an extra year. As a result, transfers after
ground-zero can not be allowed.
