Hopefully the registry will do some kind of trademark checking up front,
because as most of us know there are thousands of incredibly generic domain
names which have been submitted for sunrise pre-reg.

If they do reject these un-trademarked domain registrations, will the names
then become available for landrush pre-reg? Currently the existence of a
sunrise order prevents the entry of a landrush order (at OpenSRS).

If they don't check the trademarks, well, that's a nightmare for another
day. The way the Afilias sunrise challenge policy reads, while you don't
need a registered trademark to challenge a sunrise registration, you do need
one to register the domain name once you win the challenge. And who would
spend the bucks on the challenge if there's no chance you'll get the domain?
(And if I read corrrectly, Afilias gets a $25 cash incentive for every
challenged registration from WIPO, so why would they even want to discourage
this crap?)
