The speculators seem to think that if there's *ANY* interest
in the domain, it must be worth at least four figures.

We've used atlcon.net since 1997. Somebody holds atlcon.com
and is selling it...when I asked how much they wanted, it
was something like $4,500. I've lived without it for 4
years, I don't need to take a bath to get it. :)

The other interesting one was "atlantaisp.com" (or something
like that). It was offered for sale on eBay, along with
a breathless SPAM to Atlanta-area ISPs about how it was
on the market "and no reserve"! Of course, the initial
bid had to be $3,500 or more. I'd have paid $100...maybe.

The only caveat to the "speculators-think-it's-worth-more-
than-it-really-is" syndrome is short names. If the name
in question was, say, oct.com, then I'd say it probably
is worth a fair sum of money.

Eric Longman

Subject: squatters?

Someone scooped up a name that was recently deleted... and immediately put a
for sale sign on the home page. I inquired and he said that he was asking
$5000.

Is this right ? I already have the .net and .org forthis domain... it is
for my family's use. and I wanted the .com just to be complete. How
anoying.

Jim
