I think you're probably misunderstanding -- nobody said "forget them".
They said "keep detailed discussions to a more appropriate place".
Some of the other lists I'm on, where the moderator has not stepped in,
have started with expressions of shock and devolved into racist
name-calling, as anonymous discussions of international incidents
unfortunately often do. The only way to keep that kind of stuff off
business lists is to step in early and point people in more appropriate
directions; it just takes one person to say something inappropriate and
the anger gets out of hand very quickly.
