Almost all bigger WLL (wireless local loop) telcos/carriers have filed for bankruptcy this year in Germany or stopped providing this product because they didn't have enough customers. The penetration with DSL broadband access has grown from almost nothing to 95% within two years here. I would imagine this will happen in the States as well, sooner or later. Maybe not in rural areas, but you were talking about centres with a dense population.
