No harm in doing what is best for your business. I was merely sharing our
(SpyProductions) viewpoint. My Bottom line point is the money is VeriSign's.
Thawte is VeriSign flat out. The team of Thawte employees may run a smooth
ship, however the reason they (still) exist as a discount alter ego.
Register.com has one, and Tucows has us RSP's (vrs Tucows' Domain Direct).
But in every case the money goes to the top of the food chain.

As for the Entrust fiasco's on this list. I've seen some stupid posts here
that all anyone can do is ignore. Not always, but many times it comes down
to newbie (forgive the slang) RSP's or RSP business owners that want to
express out of school opinions... that just don't understand enough
technically. There is always and exception to every rule as is the case with
Mark J. I hear he is a pro and I am sure his complaint is right as rain.
I don't think the litany of complaints on this list about Entrust are valid
because we (Spy) have bought more than one Entrust cert and the process was
a snap. Maybe Entrust does suck, but I've not had any personal experience
go foul with them.

In the end, who do you buy from is a matter of what is best for your
business. I won't fault you either way. ;)

I will close with this. This list as far as I see it is to benefit Tucows
RSP's. I may tease folks here on occasion but I would hope the common goal
is unity as Tucows resellers. That means when you can, do business with
Tucows. They will build on this and offer us more value added services in
return for our support. If Tucows cost more and/or offers services that
don't compliment your company than we share those short comings and/or
faults for them to remedy. That is what Mark did today, granted in a
hilarious way but effective. :) The squeaky wheel gets the oil.

I only wish Mark had a fiasco like this more often. I'd have more to laugh
about. God knows nobody here gets 'my' jokes.

Peace and love inc,
Lars

Thawte was not always verisign and they seem to have retained a level of
'non-verisign-ness' that makes it non-painful to work with them. My last
thawte cert was purchased in sept this year. It was as smooth and painless
as I could wish for...nothing like the painful gyrations described on this
list when trying to get an Entrust cert. The don't buy a product from them
because they are affilliated with so-n-so seems strange to me. I won't buy
domains from Verisign because their customer service sucks, their pricing
sucks and their business practices suck. But somewhere along they way, they
bought a company that didn't have those problems and they haven't messed it
up yet...i will still buy from cert until their service goes to hell (hoping
that it won't) or there is a better priced option that has reasonable
support available. At this point, reasonable support seems to be defined
as...do they have any support at all? Great! I'll buy!

p.s. Somewhere along the way I may have lost track of the point I was trying
to make...but I certainly feel better now anyway ;)

Just my humble opinion ...I think Mark J. was right to make a stink, but I
think Entrust is still a good option. We used them and received a lot of
support when we had trouble installing their cert on a Cobalt RaQ server.
Basically because the RaQ is strange. In addition if you are not in a hurry
the process is not that bad.

Next up, I wouldn't do business with Thawte because they are VeriSign. I'd
rather not put money in their pocket if I don't have to.

Just my 2 cents. I'd give you 4 but it would be wasted on some of the
Yahoo's here. :)

Peace and Love Incorporated,
Lars
