If you are having difficulties in obtaining this information, there is some advice on the transfer page which I'll include here:

The current Registrar of record will have the auth info code and must provide it to the Registrant. The ICANN-Afilias contract says "a Registrar must provide a copy of the transaction identifier information [auth code] to the domain registrant, who will need this information to request a domain transfer through a different Registrar". In addition, in the ICANN-Afilias contract, Appendix F 3.10, it says: "When transferring sponsorship of a Registered Name to or from another registrar, Registrar shall comply with the requirements of (Appendix F) Exhibit D." You may want to read Exhibit D for more details. Contracts are available here: http://www.icann.org/tlds/agreements/info/ The sponsoring Registrar must provide the auth info code to the Registrant. If they do not, the Registrar is in breach of their Registry-Registrar Agreement and the Registrant should contact Afilias customer support [EMAIL PROTECTED] who can help them force their Registrar to comply with the requirements. </snip> Afilias had agreed to assist in enforcing these rules.
