We do our expirations once per day (update the "flag" at the registry).  All
names would then deactivate at the 5am window (actually, I believe the roots
are updating at midnight and noon, so they'd deactivate at the midnight
window if I'm correct).

Renewal is immediate, so the next zone update should have your re-activated
name.  Remember that the root zones have a 48h TTL on nameservers, so
propogation time takes... time :)
