Not to detract from the need for such a self organization work effort,
but it should be pointed out this is a private effort, and not ICANN
sanctioned or approved yet.

And it is experiencing some problems with the person who starting it
trying to make it in his image, rather than the image of those who are
its members, and repeating mistakes he's made in other groups his
tried to setup along similar lines that took 2 years to finally
straighten out.

I'm not saying don't join, I'm just pointing out that this isn't a
"clean" effort yet, and it bears some close scrutiny when you join up.
Be careful not to let it turn into nothing but a political vehicle for
its founder.  If you join, pay attention, and make sure your voice on
issues is heard, and question everything.
