Hi Kirk, we here at easyDNS still use bind and flat zone files.
They are all generated by scripts, and in fact stored in a database but so far we haven't found anything deemed "stable". We've evaluated powerDNS, and it is a good product, but their pricing model didn't fit with ours. At the end of the day we couldn't justify it. I recently came across dns-software.net and was planning on taking a look at it, but have not had a chance to yet.
