Well...no idea what exactly caused this, but when I wiped out the config files and started with fresh ones from the distribution (and a fresh Private Key), the problem was resolved.
Word to the wise, though: Obviously, it *IS* possible to get what appears to be a server-side error when there is some kind of screw up on the client-side.
