Registry error, domain's nameservers not updated [SRS Major Code: 5010]

Ouch!  Just registered xxxx.us and tried to update the nameservers:

Registry error, domain's nameservers not updated [SRS Major Code: 5010]

The new nameservers are registered in .US (I checked) and the domain isn't locked.

Is this a timing issue with the registry or...
