They reach 90% of the market and that percentage will go up as people update their computers and/or software.
The next lowest price I have found is sslplanet.com which is $84.95. But I would not use them because their site advertises everybody else charges too much, implying greed if you charged your client more than $84.95 for a ca in the past. I was using geotrust prior to their arrangement with sslplanet that allows sslplanet to sell geotrust certs for less than geotrust charges me and then imply that I cheat my clients. So I have discontinued offering geotrust certs to my clients. I will offer my clients these certs for $49 with the understanding that it currently provides 90% market coverage. I will not make a profit offering these certs for $49, but then I do not make a profit on domain registrations either. These are just ways to attract new hosting clients. Frankly anybody using browsers older than Netscape 4.7 should upgrade and not complain because the market has left them behind. Harsh, yes. However it is generally recognized that 10% of the client base generates 90% of the support work. It is not financially viable to support those who will not help themselves by staying up to date. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jeff Breitner" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Thursday, May 16, 2002 11:22 PM Subject: RE: Low cost web certs from InstantSSL... > > They're cheap probably because of the catch-22 of the root certificate. > > Hopefully, they are part of <insert browser author here>'s certificate > update program and have their > CA info in current browsers.
