I did try via port 43 whois. I don't use web interfaces to whois. And 
while I can see your results, what I got was:

I might almost be willing to bet, given the flakiness of it, that 
one/more of the whois servers in the rotation for whois.godaddy.com are 
boned, and that's the source of the problem.

If it really is policy, though, we here @ RFCI will start listing 
godaddy.com-registered domains in the whois zone and let it all sort 
itself out as sites start getting blocked for incomplete whois data....
