David,

You missed a bit! ;-)

The criteria by which registrants are classified as businesses for phase one is explained at
http://www.nominet.org.uk/ref/whois1.html.   Non-trading individuals are registrants who
do not use or  plan to use their domain name for business, trade or professional transactions.

After necessary enabling changes to Nominet's Terms and Conditions, for which a full public
consultation is planned,  the second phase of the expanded WHOIS is planned to go live
on 1 December 2002.

Cheers,

Chris

Subject: .UK Whois expanding - finally

On 1 October 2002 Nominet is finally expanding WHOIS for .UK domains.

New details will include the Registrant name, the address details for registrants that have been classified as businesses, the date on which the domain name is due for renewal, and the name and URL of the Tag Holder.  The second phase will include address details for non-trading individuals (there will be an opt out option for individuals) so apart from those who have opted out, the address details on the expanded whois will be fully populated by December 2004.

Kind regards,

David Dorey
