This is a great example of the kind of support you get from NSI/VeriSign:

We renewed one of our client's domains last April for the '02-'03 year, as per normal proceedures.  In May, Network Solutions, took the domain from us, probably via a scam because the client had no idea it had happened.  In late November the client realized that his domain didn't work.  Doing a WhoIs lookup, I found that the domain record with NSI was incomplete - all it had was the nameservers listed.  No registrant info, no expiration date, nothing.

After speaking with a NetSol technical support representative, I discovered that they somehow 'lost' the registrant and expiration details of the domain.  In other words, their database showed it registered, but it
didn't show for how long or who is was registered to.  I then basicallybrowbeat them until they agreed to add the registrant information to the domain on Thanksgiving, and made them call me after they got the domain up and running.  But when I checked on the Monday after Thanksgiving I found the domain listed as 'available'!  So, instead of fixing things in their database, they simply deleted the domain altogether, leaving it open for the world to register!  I immediately registered it for my client, and gave NSI a piece of my mind as to what I thought of their customer service and technical support.

Amazing...simply amazing...
