Your WHOIS client is doing to queries, first it queries the verisign registry (whois.crsnic.net) then it attempts to query whois.onlinenic.com, which doesn't appear to be responding. I've never heard of a registrar named ONLINENIC, INC. (but with the thousands of registrars these days that is understandable). Some registrars do not provide a port 43 WHOIS service even though that is a violation of their ICANN agreement. ICANN doesn't enforce their agreements and the registrars know this so they don't bother complying.
