I probably won't be too popular for pointing this out on this list, but if consumer trust is not an issue (i.e., no commerce on this site), but the purpose is instead just to provide point to point security, I'd either go ahead and use a self signed cert, or head over to Geotrust's low end retail outlet http://www.freessl.com/ and get either a FreeSSL ($0 cost) or a ChainedSSL ($15 cost) cert.
