Whilst I agree with spirit of your comments, the sample scripts do need to be either platform independent or if this is not possible then platform specific versions are required. They are the starting point for most new resellers and if they are not available for their platform they will likely go elsewhere. It is therefore in both our and OpenSRS's interests that the sample scripts and solutions offered are available for at least the most prevalent platforms if they cannot be platform independent.
I take the sample scripts, brand them and add in a hosting and credit card registration module but I'm not prepared to look at the email offering if I have to start integration and development work just to evaluate it and I suspect that I am not alone in this. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 07 March 2003 16:07 To: Rob Macleod Cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: Client Code for non Unix systems On Fri, 2003-03-07 at 07:43, Rob Macleod wrote: > Thanks Chris that's a very handy set of utils. > This was really a veiled dig at OpenSRS for only providing a 'nix solution. > I don't know what the mix is between Microsoft & 'nix but I do know that > there are a fair number of resellers on the Microsoft platform. Yes, but OpenSRS has also always made clear that the client suite was a SAMPLE client suite, illustrating how to implement the document protocols for interacting with their systems. Actually deciding how to implement the protocols has always rested on the resellers' shoulders. Some choose to use the sample client scripts without modification, others have implemented their own solutions, using only the OpenSRS perl modules to simplify development. Others have completely rolled their own, or integrated the protocol calls into their existing systems. OpenSRS cannot provide a complete suite of applications that would meet everyone's needs, so they provide one sample suite that they will support, which can be used as a template for those who have other needs. -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
