Morning update:
I found another mail program for my phone that works. I'm hoping I can get the default app to work eventually though. I also got my wife's iPhone working. Incoming mail is still going to my home server, which is fine for now, and outgoing is relaying through the linode box.

Current problem is that when I send mail from [email protected] to [email protected], the Linode box stores it locally instead of forwarding it to thekramers.net. For some reason the linode server thinks it's collecting mail for thekramers.net too. - thekramers.net is not mentioned anywhere in the postfix or dovecot config files
- I removed it as a virtual_domain in MySQL and restarted everything

This is something that can be solved when I get back though.

Yessssssssssssss!

OK this is a temporary solution but at least I can send now. I have my laptop sending and my tablet, but for some reason I can't get my phone sending. It's not even hitting the server. I even tried using IP address instead of host. AT&T must be interfering somehow.

I'm gonna try a different mail program on my phone next.

Thanks everyone for their advice. I'm out of crisis mode but I still need to take the next step when I get back of moving sending and receiving to the linode box.

OK in theory you will get this and I'm sending this from Tunderbird. I think this will work

I had to open up sntps on the firewall, and than a [email protected] entry in virtual_users for the authentication to work. I was able to send email to my gmail account this way!

I just looked up the Google SMTP, and that's a nice option, except
for the fact that they change the From address to the Gmail address
you use for authentication, which will be confusing for the
recipient.
Then let's get clever: get your Linode server working as I previously
described and then configure your home MTA to use it as its smarthost.
This should get your mail moving without headers being rewritten and
without waiting for DNS changes to propagate. You need to add your
public facing home IP address to Postfix's mynetworks list and you will
need to update it manually when it changes.
