On the topic of notebook recommendations, my favorite notebook shop is PCs For Everyone (www.pcsforeveryone.com). They have a terrific online configurator so you can get what you want, instead of searching through scads of preconfigured laptops that aren't quite right. They're not the cheapest but it's good stuff.
