I agree with Florian that hiding addresses doesn't help much, and the
disadvantages are greater (for me). I vote to leave the lists as they
are. But we do need to add to the warning on the signup page.
I agree. Hiding the email address makes it harder for mailing list
members to contact each other, which is much worse than the flips-side
of getting more spam (which in any case can be filtered).
People who send email should expect that their address will be known.
If you don't like that, you can use a throw-away account to post to the
mailing list.
Jean is right, that the behavior should be stated on the sign-up page.
Most mailing lists are this way, though, so it shouldn't come as a big
surprise.
