The current help system is fully documented in the OOo2HelpAuthoring.pdf and in Developers Guide. I would not call it proprietary. It has some advantages over a pure HTML based system, such as embedding and index handling. Moreover, if we kept the current format, we could merge fixes and improvements from OOo. There are many helpcontent CWS-es waiting for integration, I think those are valuable for us.
