Christoph, no offense intended, but those Renaissaince mock-ups were not *the* Ribbon, but they were really ribbon-like.
And, as a 10 years OOo user, I usually don't talk about concepts (theory), but about productivity (reality).
As long as I used the Ribbonized MS Office and IBM Symphony 3 (4 weeks both, for a programmed migration that didn't occurred), only IBM product didn't decreased my productivity. It was not perfect, but it was profitably usable for users different from newbies or MS Office adepts.
