Thanks to Asheesh for pointing me at http://freeculture.org/pipermail/discuss/2007-February/000941.html and the subsequent thread.
It seems that as we churned through ideas for "remix" and "share" icons the provenance of those ideas got temporarily lost. Sorry about that! (Yes, I feel the irony.) CC would prefer to continue using the building block icon to for "remix" -- if the sentiment of FC.o agrees. We'd be happy to acknowledge taking the idea from FC.o's logo, as we should have done initially -- probably in a blog post and on our http://creativecommons.org/presskit page where we publish sources for graphic elements, but not on every deed. But if the sentiment of FC.o is against CC using a FC.o logo like icon to denote "remix", we'll come up with a new design (ideas welcome!). It doesn't seem like there's a consensus on the matter, so discuss, or let me know if I missed the boat. Thanks, Mike p.s.
