Let me clarify a bit.

This isn't even about supporting GNU/Linux or running free software in
computer labs. This is about requiring students to run a particular
operating system (in Brian's case, Windows) on their personal machines
or yield participation in certain activities.

I suppose it surprises me because I don't see why schools wouldn't be
using web services.
