interesting approach.  are the people who put together this site on this
mailing list?  i'm interested in some of the thinking behind this.

the idea that a community works together to Free a work is pretty neat, but
a little less neat when you consider that the artist could have just made it
Free to begin with.  perhaps the idea is that by using an open license, one
relinquishes part of her ability to profit from her work (a flawed claim,
imo), and this is a way to get the artist her fair share before her work is
donated to the public?  based on no research, i would guess that it's quite
common for a work to become much more valuable after it is remixed.

i don't know... in my mind, charging for freedom is not a whole lot better
than charging for access.  but that being said, i'm totally interested in
hearing more about this, and i'm totally psyched that this is fundamentally
rethinking how we can build a business model around freedom.  not everybody
has to dive into the deep end of free culture, that's why we have
non-free-cultural-works-approved cc licenses!
