as someone new to jquery (and this list), i find the use of the svn
version as a build for plug-ins really frustrating.

first, it complicates the use of jquery for the very reasons posted on
this thread (compatibility, etc.)

second, i think it actually *slows* the progress of jquery stable
releases. by building plug-ins on the svn builds, it seems to me that
there is little incentive to stablize and commit to a stable release
for the jquery core. plus, if we all had to work off the same core, i
think folks would do a bi more to ensure progress on upgrading it.

in addition, i'd like to see the plug-ins checked into svn as well.
this would stablize the plug-in set and (i think) help to stablize
integration testing in general. i don't know the details of who owns
the svn (john r?) and whether that person wants to open the tree to
plug-ins. short of keeping them in a single place, i'd like to see
the plug-ins community create a shared svn to help stablize this part
of the code base. google's hosting space would be a good place for
that, i think.

finally, i know that jquery is really young and that it's tough to get
a handle on all this stuff. however, if we all commit to sticking to
building on stable releases, we'll all benefit in the long run by
reducing the playing surface when routing out bugs in plug-ins *and*
by putting lots of momentum behind releasing stable core updates as
often as reasonable.

and another thing - this library *kicks butt* and i appreciate the
work everyone is doing to get it up and running so quickly. i hope i
can learn enough in the next few weeks to be a contributor, too.

thanks to all
