Are you a
recent college graduate looking to increase your expertise in machine learning
or computational biology research before pursuing a Ph.D.?  Do you
consider yourself a self-starter who is motivated to expand your knowledge and
experience in python and machine learning? If so, you may be the person we’re
looking for to fill our contract research assistant position.


 


About Us


 


Microsoft
Research New England’s Computational Biology Group thrives at the intersection
of computer science and biology. We have advanced the state of the art across
several domains, including setting the standard for RNA guide selection for
CRISPR gene editing.  We are now collaborating with experts in cancer
immunotherapy at several leading cancer centers and universities to use machine
learning to better understand and harness the power of the human immune system
to fight cancer. More information is available on our website about our team’s

We have an
open contract RA position starting immediately and ending June 30, 2019 (with
the potential to extend).  Interviews will start immediately.


 


About You


 


The
successful candidate will have the following required skills:


  -
Demonstrated proficiency in Python programming—in particular, scientific
computing using tools such as numpy/scipy/scikit-learn/pandas


  -
Basic expertise in machine learning, such as would be acquired through 
undergraduate
courses 


  -
Demonstrated ability to structure and motivate your learning and workload under
the mentorship of a diverse group of researchers and data scientists


  -
Experience working with data


 


Additional
preferred skills (desired but not required) include at least some of:


  -
Basic expertise in biology or bioinformatics, such as would be acquired through
undergraduate courses


  -
Comfort with command-line tools and scripting (e.g., bash, PowerShell)


  -
Experience with pre-processing biological data (accessing common databases,
using pipelines)


  -
Experience working with large datasets


 


The
candidate will work under the supervision of Lester Mackey, Vasilis Syrgkanis
(located in our New England lab in Cambridge, MA) and Miro Dudik (located in our
New York City lab in Manhattan).  Although Cambridge, MA is the preferred
location for this position, it may also be possible to locate the position in
NYC if needed.
