Hey Everyone,

See message below from Lex. Feel free to share your thoughts!

Hi,

I recently learned about the Learning Assistant Alliance
<https://learningassistantalliance.org/>, which started at the University of
Colorado, Boulder. “A Learning Assistant is an undergraduate student who,
through the guidance of course instructors and a special pedagogy course,
facilitates discussions among groups of students in a variety of classroom
settings that encourage student engagement and responsibility for learning.”
This is organised, amongst other things, in weekly meetings with all assistants
during the course.

I had a brief look at their resources (for which one needs to create an
account) and they overlap to some extent with the Carpentries instructor
training materials, e.g. mindset and mental models.

At the University of Oslo, there is an ongoing project to adopt the Learning
Assistant Program to our course teaching computational skills - and I am really
excited to implement it with the assistants in my course.

Have the Learning Assistant Alliance and The Carpentries ever reached out to
each other?

Best,

Lex
