Hi David,

Vanderbilt's doing something similar. We're planning on having a 1.5 mo long
Software Carpentry workshop hosted every Friday. We'll use the core, required
curriculum (Shell, Git, Python or R) and the lesson on SQL. Shell and Git will
each take one day, and Python and SQL will be broken into halves. Our full-time
graduate students just don't have the time to take three consecutive days off
from classes. Fridays are their only 'free' day.

I asked the Carpentries (twice!) if this was unorthodox or not allowed, but
they ok'd it in full.  The Carpentries were kind enough to link me to an
example of an extended workshop:

I'm planning on asking students to review the material/progress we've made
before the next Friday's lesson. I also might build a mini-curriculum to get
them back into the swing of the lesson.

Good luck!
