Hi All,
Grreat thought provoking discussion
My two cents in the mix:

In general, the way they are covered in The Carpentries, tidyverse is coupled
with R teaching, which in turn is contextualised within the domain that is
covered, ecology, soc sci and so on. This conforms to the Carpentries
philosophy of "teach the most useful things first" and "teach where the
learners are". I believe the way tidyverse and ggplot is embedded in The
Carpentries, more just-in-case tidyverse will not serve the purpose of
learners. Rather, as tidyverse continues to evolve, we may or whoever
maintain(s) these lessons may consider to update them. Then, these individual
modules can be incorporated and integrated elsewhere, reducing redundancy
within the ecosystem.
Best,
