This actually sounds quite good. Can we infer then that it would uphold that ideal of having a minimal server version and a full desktop version? - in fact, that they are the same as OI's?

If this is the case, especially if you can glean all the necessary metadata from OI's IPS, it doesn't seem to warrant being called another distribution - I'd liken it more to being just a different build of the same distribution...

Having one distribution with a few build targets would be good in that it wouldn't fragment the userland mailing lists, websites, and what not. There should be just one list and one website where users can go.
