I'm not sure if it will accomplish what you want, but I'd look into cfgadm and
cfgadm_sata.
I can see my drive list:
pfexec cfgadm -la
I can prepare to remove a drive:
pfexec cfgadm -c unconfigure sata0/0::dsk/c2t4d0
