You'd rather nightly builds take a week to run? And that the entire contents
of every other package in the world be individually checked into the
illumos gate so cloning takes many hours? Are you signing up to create some
strange hybrid build system created that works with them and the existing ON
code? That way lies utter madness and huge amounts of wasted time. Just
look at ksh93 for how this hurts.
Some of the consolidation boundaries are unfortunate historical artifacts of
the way Sun was organized long ago - others actually do make some sense.
