The KVM kernel module is self-contained and at this stage does not require additional patches in illumos-gate to work. You just need to build it (and the matching qemu) and run it, or to use somebody else's binaries. Whether KVM is ever to be included in illumos-gate or not I don't know, but due to its modular nature and ready availability I don't really consider that to be particularly important at this stage. I would note, also, that additional work is presently on the path to integration to make illumos a substantially better KVM guest, viz. the VirtIO storage (and eventually network?) drivers. -- Joshua M.
