Yes, updating is an option.
But also I thought that the issue about "resetting" on newer OSX may be linked
to the 10.4.
Maybe some trimming on the CIFS side?

Re: [discuss] osx timeouts on illumos based cifs storage
Does this happen with newer versions of OS X?
Is it possible to update the client systems to a newer version of OS X? 10.4
is not quite ten years old, so its kind of long in the tooth. It hasn?t got a
security update since 2009. (If you?re running on a powerpc mac, 10.5 should
be an option, but I have no idea how you?d go about getting it. Notably 10.7
is the oldest MacOS release that still has support from Apple.)

I can do on theserver side.
I have asituation with windows clients, a primary domain controller, anillumos
based zfs storage
with cifs sharingjoined on the domain.
Everything worksfine, for months.
Then there aresome OSX clients, opening the cifs shares via smb urls on
thefinder.
The more recentOSX clients can open these urls and work, but sometimes
theyexperience
some kind of"reset" while going down deep the folders tree, and finder goesback
to the root of the share.
One particularclient, stopped mapping these urls few days ago, forever trying
toconnect without luck,
causingmount_smbfs timeouts. This is the only OSX 10.4.
Though,connection with smbclient works.
I found a lot ofdocumentations about problems of OSX 10.4, mounting smb,
usuallyresolved
changing mechs onthe smb server, or keychain on the client, or nmbd not running
onthe server or what.
I also found someone talking about a Solaris 10 server wherethey had to change
some
parameter keepalive=255, solving osx connectionproblems.
But this is aCIFS/ZFS server, not just a samba server.
After trying everything on the client, I gave up, taking mytime to think what I
can do on the server.
Anyone has suggestions?
Gabriele.
