Similar problems exist in Samba 4.x, at least on FreeNAS. A growing number
of smbd processes start using 100% of the server's CPUs when the shares are
accessed via OS X's Finder or Window's Explorer. Strangely enough this
doesn't seem to happen when running network bench marks or accessing shares
via programs like XBMC or Windows Media Center. But once the problem starts
then, of course, everyone's hosed.

It's hard to believe that a programs as widely used as Samba is this
consistently broken. Hopefully the U of M NFS client for Windows works well
enough that I can just dump SMB completely.
