Hi, I found exactly the problems you all stated with the P420 : setting them as single volumes will cause many headaches when disks are removed etc. Today I will be trying to install an LSI standard card into the DL380e and connect the disks backend to it, hoping to see them in JBOD mode. I'm not very sure they will be visible, because the backend may be customized to work with the P420... In this case, I will have no choice but use the P420 hardware raid configurations. What I noticed in my tests, is that the illumos kernel (fresh as of November 2016) can see the disk volums of with the P420, but it also says it will see a maximum of 2TB of the volumes. This is not a deal with the 3 boot disks (500GB each mirrored by the P420), but I have another 9 900GB disks I would like to place in a single hardware raid+spares. I've found a link ( https://www.illumos.org/issues/1441 , at the bottom of the page) saying: "For HP ProLiant Gen8/8+ Servers, APIX should be disabled by adding the following to /etc/system: 'set apix_enable = 0'" This is a Gen8 machine : maybe this flag will open the hardware raid to the full size? Any idea? ...still hoping to make the LSI work.... It features 2 hba controllers: 1- HP Dynamic Smart Array B120i RAID controller (with 4 disks, I will use 2 as a mirrored boot) 2- Smart Array P420 (some TB of disks) I want to completely bypass hardware array raid and use jbod or similar. I found documents around saying that I can just configure each disk as a single array in the controller, obtaining the same effect. Anyone has suggestions? Any problem I may encounter in this transition? Should I disable any option on the arrays to disable write caching etc?
