Any business/enterprise that is considering using a 3D environment
for collaboration needs to take a deep breath. There is an enormous
amount of evidence that the whole Second Life thing was a huge scam,
that all of the businesses who got involved got burned badly -- look
for articles about that. The history of the web is littered with the
corpses of companies and products who tried to use 3D to do something
that works just fine in 2D (ex: VRML) So your first question should
really be "why?"

Unless, of course, the business in question's product or service has
to do with 3D graphics: creating 3D animation, architecture, games,
industrial design, etc. If people need to collaborate about 3D
design, then being in the same virtual world makes perfect sense.

I really hate to be a party-pooper, because this stuff is certainly
fun to work on -- and I still suspect that in a 100 years 3D virtual
worlds will be the norm -- but for now I'd recommend viewing such a
project as an R&D investment.
